भारतीय रेल

The first time when i was informed that the rail budget is announced separately i.e. it is not contained in the annual budget for that nation, i could not realize the reason. It is now , when i travel so extensively in trains, that i understand the need for a separate rail budget.
The behemoth network of two parallel rails running across the entire nation requires a dedicated planning and budget allotment. I want to read a book on Indian railways. trains have been an integral part of my life. I boarded them when i was in school , college and now in the industry. The uniformity and seldom irregularities you find in the entire system of railways is worth noticing and reading.

i append an incident which happened at railway station.

Last week while i was coming from Indore to Vadodara, i had to wait for my train in a waiting hall. (Indian railways have taken up an initiative by constructing air conditioned waiting halls in major railway stations). There was another bunch of passengers waiting for their respective trains. Out of all the trains which run from Indore there are three trains which i have been noticing since last two months during my travel to Indore. One is Jammu tawi - indore express. This train reminds me of my home town and tats why it has got a mention here.

Second is Indore-pune. this train leaves at around 2:30 from the station.

Third one is my train i.e. Avantka express.

That day was the day before diwali.

Passengers of indore pune train were irate. Their train was 9 hours late. Imagine how bad you feel when you reach the station to board a train , to travel to your home for Diwali ; and then you are told that your train is late by 9 hrs. It is bad.

Luckily it was not my train.

People were making alternate arrangements. Bus and Air were the two options.

I could only sympathize with them. There were two people sitting next to me. They were to board my train. They worked in Indian railways. So it was obvious for me to quench my curiosity about Indian railways. And they reciprocated my gesture. They told me about some technical and managerial procedures about railways.

About the current scenario, they were of the opinion that the train which had just reached indore (9 hrs late) and would be finally leaving for Pune , should be made available in a short span. They told that , normally it takes 6-9 hrs for a train get ready for the next journey(there are certain mandatory checks that are to be performed). So this train will be made available only after 6-9 hrs , and thus make the train run around 9 hrs run behind schedule. However , the two gentleman contended that the train could be made available within 3-4 hrs provided it was done so with an intention to make it happen(the checks to be made can be done quickly). So 6-9 hrs duration can be constrained to 3-4 hrs in times of need.

I appreciated their concern for something which they were not responsible for. At least they were contributing healthily towards a solution for a problem.

And there was another elderly gentleman in the waiting room who was under delusion that he has got some real innovative ideas.

He suggested that all trains which were available at the Indore station currently should be contributing in this fix. Now hear this... " they should take out one coach each from all the available trains and attach it with a spare engine. And the train would be ready to accommodate people for Indore-Pune journey"

And then he cribbed that Indian system is so corrupt and that there should be some youngsters who should protest against this rotting system; and that today's youth lacks the 'AAKROSH' ...

After the most anguished diatribe he could deliver, he left the waiting room because his son had already booked Air tickets for his 'army retired' father.

I wont comment on this small incidence, but probably i can say this.

We should only comment on something about which we know certain things( or we have worked on it to know it). Detaching so many compartments from so many trains and making a new temporary train may solve problem for the Indore-Pune passengers but put a lot other people in trouble. Where will those passengers be adjusted whose compartments were detached to make the new train?? How will those TC manage all the clamouring passengers whose seats were cancelled..??

Probably the elderly gentleman did not have any answers to these obvious questions. And had i dared to put these questions in front of him , i am sure , he would have easily said " its not my job to devise further solutions, Its the Indian railways who are responsible , and let them work on it"....

In a nutshell, if you are unhappy about something then you may express your emotions.Let the concerned people do their job. They will devise some solution. After all they have been working with these system for so many years. Don't let the expression of anguish be so meaningless and unwanted that it simply creates noise.

Noise , which is termed as pollution now a days..

being lethargic

Being lethargic...

I am lethargic, lazy and slow.

And this is only for the activities which are probably most important in my life.

So , if tomorrow I am supposed to rise early and leave for office, its herculean for me to perform.

No.. its not because i don't like to wake up at time. Neither it is because of escapism from my responsibilities. I believe there are very few people in this world who avoid their responsibilities. They all know whats important for them.

But , what is it that retards me when i approach these important daily tasks. I believe its the desire to achieve quick results. I will be very quick in getting up from sleep and dress up for a movie, even if i was informed at a short notice.

My body's response to this urgent requirement of getting up and defying the 'law of laziness' would be astounding.

Whats the reason for this new life which i gather to get ready for the movie?

Well, the answer could be only one. And it is, the quick enjoyment i receive after putting in effort ,in getting ready for the movie. The quick enjoyment while watching the movie.

I could foresee, rather my conscience(which is also very mean, like me... by the way , i consider my conscience and myself two different entities.. my conscience advised me to do so) helped me to foresee the pleasure of watching a movie with pop corns and cold drink. And the attractive part of the incentive is that i will get all the pleasure in an hour, as soon as i reach the cinema hall.

hence, this is it. I have found it. I do everything quickly which ensures a quicker result. Otherwise, things are quite different in my pace to do things.

Take another example-

If i feel, someday, that i need to shed some weight, i will decide to wake up early in the morning and jog for some time. Now , this ain't difficult for me. in fact I am a morning person. I generally wake up early. But to perform this task of getting up and jogging will be a challenge.

Simply because of the fact that i am not getting the result of 'losing my weight' quickly. It will take a long time to happen. An uninterrupted rhythm of waking up early and going for a jog. So, it will never happen that i maintain a habit of jogging.

In a nutshell,

a man is always guided by his thirst of quicker results. It is seldom that a man realizes the worth of continued effort. And when he/she realizes ,it is often too late. May be, the men who comprehend this truth( and most importantly.implement it in their lives, because we all know the truth. Its just that we don't implement it) and selflessly(to a certain extent) imply it in their routines that they taste success. Otherwise, its only a game of chance. You win or lose, depending on which day is it today.

mumbai rains

rain..
i Had no prejudices for rains. It was a mere act of God for me. In fact i never paid any attention to the question "whether i should hate or like rains?". For a common man, rain is welcomed if he/she is sitting in the peace of home, snacks, tea and TV. Else , its a disturbance. Disturbance to his whole schedule. You come out of your home and find the muddy drenched roads. Wear a slipper or fold up your pants.. the pants will get soiled. I wonder how difficult it is for a door to door salesman to sell in the rainy season( worse if he has to sell something which has to be sold dry). And this comparison energises me for the next day... coz i know that i have the luxury of an a/c cab and thus no reasons to complain...
Happy selling...

Goa does business

its not easy to digest the fact that Goa does business; not for me atleast.
Of late, i have been traveling to Goa for business trips. When i started , i was sceptical about the probablity of business in Goa. I wondered, who would run business in Goa( you need real astutes,to run a business!!; and how do i expect to find some in goa??)...
After all Goa is all about liqour, dance, party, fishes and seas...
Now my prespective has changed. Infact i feel that i was wrong but .. partially..

I have many people there.
and one thing i found common is the need for money( which is quite obvious).
Now, the unique thing about this behaviour is the attitude with which money is desired.
They are still having a laid back attitude. And they dont change.
It is all to do with the pace with which the city moves. Grocery stores open at around 8-9 but showrooms at around 11-12(quite normal..).. but then the afternoon approaches and shops are again shut for atleast 2-3 hours.. may be its there lunch time(but who does a lunch in 3 hrs.??)..
and when its night.. goans call it a day quite early..By 9 it seems 1130...
and this is Panjim i am refering to,the capital.. Dont know what happens in rest of Goa..
I am unhappy with this attitude of Goans.. It retards my desire to do business there..
HOWEVER- I also feel good about it.. I enjoy the casual approach toward life. I relate it to my college days when my only motif was to pass the exam.. and stay in college an then find a job..
The portuegese culture gives Goa a different tinge than other states, greenry is all around.. and most importantly people are good. Heart warming and pleasing( but it seems ,now they too are learning the tricks of the trade...haha..).. i will continue with this blog. some time later

mumbai destiny

here i am,

mumbai is a challenge,

although i came here with all zest and courage, but in the end it boils down to one thing...

i.e. do you know how to cook food....??

do you know how to wash clothes??

moreover, you have any idea how tough it is to set up a kitchen and ensure that everything is at its place in your new home...?

thats it.. in a nut shell..

you might have all the plans in your mind.. but this is what you need to know(cooking,cleaning,household)... infact this is the beginning of the story..

you pass this test and proceed to next qualifying rounds..

so here i am... my journey from ac to a ceiling fan..
